The Story Behind
ReRoot Project
What began as moments of art, conversation, and friendship withrefugee youth in Indonesia gradually grew into a shared commitment to celebrating creativity, resilience, and brighter futures.
A note from our founder
Growing up in Jakarta, I rarely encountered stories of displacement. That changed when I began spending time alongside refugee communities in Indonesia and listening to the experiences of young people living amidst prolonged uncertainty.
I founded the ReRoot Project with a simple belief: every young person deserves the opportunity to learn, create, dream, and be recognized for who they are beyond circumstances. Through art, I hope to create spaces where refugee youth can explore their creativity, share their stories, and pursue aspirations for brighter futures.
The ReRoot Project is about learning alongside them, celebrating their talents, and opening pathways for creativity to become a source of confidence, connection, and opportunity. I continue to be inspired by the resilience, kindness, and imagination of our young refugee friends, whose stories remind us that home is not only a place we inherit, but something we can build together.

A note from our team
At ReRoot, we believe that every young person has stories worth sharing, talents worth celebrating, and dreams worth pursuing.
We are a team of students, artists, educators, and friends who are committed to creating meaningful spaces where refugee youth can learn, create, and connect through art. Together, we hope to foster greater understanding, strengthen community ties, and challenge the misconception that refugees are burdens rather than valued members of our shared community.
We are grateful to walk alongside our refugee friends, whose creativity, resilience, and generosity continue to shape ReRoot into a space of learning, belonging, and hope.
Thank you for being part of our journey.
With gratitude,
The ReRoot Team
